Registration Information for 2008 – 2009

 Dear Parents,                                                                               February 7, 2008

Attached please find a copy of the registration form for Religious Education for the year 2008-2009 with a deadline for registration of April 17.  Due to the continued increase in enrollment, I would encourage you to register as soon as possible as we cannot offer the same number of classes on each of the days as those that were available this year.  Please be clear as to your second choice as this might be necessary for class assignment.  Please note that all correspondence for the program is conducted by email.  Therefore, make sure we have the proper email address for the family.  Experience has proven that the father’s work email is not the best choice!

I ask that you consider teaching in the program.  We have 18 teachers who are resigning this year due to other family and work obligations.  The strength of this program comes from the willingness of the teachers to put their faith to work.  The obligations are minimal but the rewards are remarkable.

As the parish and the program grow, so does our need for volunteers.  You will note a variety of opportunities to share in the various ministries of St. Gabriel’s on the application form.  We would love to offer sports nights for the boys and girls but we need help and we especially could use dads.  One night out of the year could be a great influence on all the children.

A final note, in class we talk about many things only one of which is Sunday Mass attendance.  Many of them “own up” that the family is not attending.  This obligation does not fall to them but to us as their parents.  And it is not easy.  Sunday is a great day to sleep in. But if we can get them up for all sorts of other developmental and sports programs, we need to convey to them that this is equally important.  We need to be preparing them for more than college acceptance.  We need to be preparing them for life – for the times when their knees can’t support the abuse of sports and their hearts have burdens to bear.  These are the times when they will need their faith and a relationship with God to keep them strong.

Sincerely yours in Christ,
J. Patricia Pula  MA Rel Ed
